The world's largest species of hard-shelled sea turtles, green sea turtles spend most of their lives underwater, but they are also known to sunbathe on land. Scientists believe that the green foods they eat give them the beautiful green color they possess. Diet consists mainly of seaweed and sea grass.
Green sea turtles have been found nesting along the coastline of more than 80 countries, with the largest nesting populations found in Costa Rica and Australia.
