Olive Ridley Sea Turtle

5. OLIVE RIDLEY SEA TURTLE

Named for their olive colored shells, Olive Ridley sea turtles are said to be the most abundant of all sea turtles although their numbers are still declining. They are best known for their synchronized nesting patterns where thousands of females travel to the same nesting site to lay their eggs. It is believed that they nest in large groups to avoid predators. The eggs of all the females hatch around the same time, and it increases the chances for each individual to make it back to the ocean where it will spend the rest of its adult life.
